Steven BooneI went to The Maryland Institute, College of Art, in Baltimore, Maryland, USA, where I graduated with a degree in painting, 1976. It was a great education—I loved being in a close-knit art community, experimenting and learning in depth many art disciplines. After I graduated, I headed west and ended up in another art community, Santa Fe, New Mexico. I began working in portraiture and eventually, in 1986, opened a studio on Canyon Road, where I sold my paintings. Later, I owned the first STEVEN BOONE GALLERY. Eventually, the name changed to ELAN, and I had taken a partner.

In 1997, my oldest daughter was diagnosed with cancer, and I sold my gallery to devote myself to her healing. She died in 1999 and I wrote a book about our journey together in life. It is called A Heart Traced in Sand, and has won several awards.

In 2011, I opened the second Steven Boone Gallery on Canyon Road, and stayed open three years. Since then I traveled out of the USA, to Africa and Europe, and around the world again, continuing to paint, photograph and write. In 2015 and 2016 I opened "pop-up" Boone galleries on Santa Fe's historic plaza.

My work is in many private collections across the United States, also in Canada, the United Kingdom, Germany, and Spain. Boone paintings are part of the permanent collection of The Foundation Van Gogh, in Arles, France, and the United States Department of Interior. Various of my works have been used for magazines and books.

I keep my vitality and creativity fresh and alive by trying different approaches in pursuing my vision. Essentially, my time is occupied with painting, photography, writing and publishing, and traveling.

The main thing for me is to be fresh creatively. For that, I must have open eyes and a sense of wonder.
